Great Ways To Restore Your Natural Hair

By

We all want our natural hair to look its best and we have to admit that we have to be willing to put in a little more love and work to achieve these results. What does it really take to restore our previously chemically treated hair into a natural magnificent mane to be proud of?

Start At The Beginning

This one is a bit hard to face, but truth must be known: once our hair has been treated by perm or pressed straight by flat irons and pressing combs, your hair has been changed forever. There is not much that can be done to change back your hair into its natural state once the damage is done.

Remember Braids and Twists

Once your natural hair has been freed from your dead ends, you can style your hair by using many different braid techniques and twists to add a different look to your hair. Braiding your hair while wet and then taking them out when they are dry is a great way to not only help avoid some of the shrinkage to your that happens through the drying process, but will give you a wavy look that can be worn for a couple of days.

Adding twists to your short natural hair, or to your hair that is transitioning between the two can be a great way to wear your hair- they can be a great precursor to trying out what it feels like to wear dreadlocks in your hair.

Use Water and Essential Oils!

Water is black natural hair's best friend. It is the best source of moisture your hair can get and with the help of some natural oils that seal in the moisture-you will win the battle of keeping that natural mane of hair soft and subtle.
There are many different essential oils that work to promote healthy hair growth. Try drizzling a little olive oil mixed with water (one part olive oil to 2 parts water) onto your scalp and massage in. Then cover your head with a shower cap for about an hour or sit under a mild setting for about 10-15 minutes under a hair dryer to deep condition your hair for instant softening results. You can add a few drops of a sweet smelling essential oil like lavender for a refreshing scent too.

Just Cut!

Chemical straighteners are designed to change the composition of natural hair and its end result is that it will dry out the hair. The straightening process itself means that to change it from curly to straight means that it has to be stripped completely of moisture as that is what helps to make the hair curly. Natural tresses that have had heat applied to them relentlessly eventually will also have the moisture stripped out of them too, causing damage to the hair shaft itself.
Normally it is best to cut your losses and just go ahead start with a fresh set of hair. Think about growing out your hair a few inches and taking the plunge and cutting off the dead ends. Your fresh growth will be healthy and chemical free and you will have a great chance of growing in a healthy mane.

Getting It Right

Your journey to replenish your natural hair is going to take patience and a bit of adjustment from the way you are used to doing things from when your hair was chemically treated, but remembering that our natural hair likes simple things and some added attention will go a long way to getting the results you are looking for.

Real cool hub. I'm thinking of getting twist in my hair. I haven't had a perm since July 2010 but now I have to let go of the weave tracks. Thanks Ebony Eden
